The story of our obsession is best told over a cup of chai. Especially one made with an automated chai maker that we designed.

Making chai is a ritual practiced by over a billion people around the world. It is like a science project with many variables: boiling water, boiling milk, adding the right proportions of chai and masala at specific temperature and sequence. It is also a unique experience that requires a lot of patience and watchful presence to make the perfect cup of chai.

Introducing Chime – the world’s first automated chai maker that fuses the traditional, hand-crafted process of making chai with our passion for design and technology.

Thanks to the vision of the founder, Gaurav Chawla, making authentic chai is now as easy as pressing a button. No mess. Always consistent. Definitely tasty.

Chime was designed to make chai-making a convenient daily ritual without the fuss. It can dispense freshly-made authentic chai tea in under three minutes. The single-cup chai maker has three distinctive columns that work seamlessly together – control console, water reservoir and brewing chamber with a removable carafe.

The brewing chamber is designed to be encased in glass to create a delightful experience of watching the ritual of tea brewing in front of you. Chime uses recyclable capsules called Chime Caps which are fresh tea pods that contain black Assam or Darjeeling tea infused with cardamom, ginger, cardamon ginger, and masala. The pods are released into the tea brewing chamber to steep, while the milk simmers below in the carafe. The brewed tea is then released into the hot milk below, which can be dispensed in a cup. The sieve in the tea brewing chamber is removable, and you can compost all the tea ingredients from the Chime Cap.

As a smart appliance, Chime enables users to adjust their tea to milk ratio, cup size, brew strength and temperature via a bluetooth-connected smartphone and app. These taste preferences are saved as pre-sets on the machine. After the chai is brewed, Chime has self-cleaning rinse cycles in which it will spray water around the chamber for a quick and easy clean. Every 60 brewing cycles, it will tell you to do a deep clean via your smartphone.
