The Peregrine is a wearable interface designed for Real-Time Strategy (RTS) and Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) games on the Mac and PC. With more than 30 actions at their fingertips, gamers can command armies and cast spells with speed, accuracy and comfort. Constructed of breathable fabric with a magnetic break-away connector, the Peregrine can augment or even replace the keyboard in any gamer’s command center. Y Studios was central to the design program. We applied our expertise in socio-cultural research and design (product, brand identity and packaging) to holistically connect the Peregrine brand experience with the gaming environment. We explored the comparative landscape of gaming accessories, gestural input concepts, as well as interviewed gamers and identified emerging socio-cultural lifestyle trends. Effective aesthetic themes were then defined to inspire appropriate design language for a final concept that best represented the vivid pulse of the gaming culture.
The project included the design of the software application used to calibrate and customize the glove to match the user’s needs. Created to be intuitive to use, the application is on-brand with a monochromatic theme, matching the design of the glove.
